Wendy’s Introduces Customer AI Temperature Check

To support safer store operations

First Kitchen Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President: Osamu Shimonoseki), which manages fast food chain and franchise business, will launch a high-speed thermometer system utilizing AI face recognition technology at Wendy’s First Kitchen “Akasaka Mitsuke location” on a trial basis from May 18, 2020 to June 12, 2020 to ensure customers safer environment.

The system is provided by a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp., Japan Computer Vision Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Andrew Schwabecker).

The face recognition technology with AI (artificial intelligence) instantly measures customer’s body temperature, and check and notify if a customer wears a mask onto prevent the spread of Covid-19.

This system employs AI ​​temperature measurement solution “Sense Thunder”. Infrared cameras measure body temperature with an accuracy of ± 0.3 ° C in 0.5 seconds, even from a distance of 1.5 meters from the subject.

It also can detect abnormal body temperature of customers and check it in real time at the store. An optimized algorithm ensures accurate temperature measurement even with the mask on. In this test trial, they will not acquire any personal information or image data of customers.
