Over 10 kinds of Italian style pizza

When did I eat very authentic pizza in Japan? Because I travel US and Japan very often, pizza I usually get to eat is American style pizza. Today, I will talk about Italian pizza place in Nerima, Tokyo.
Before we go into detail, let me explain the location. In Nerima ward, one of the Tokyo’s main roads runs through, which is “Kan-nana”. It is for short of “Kanjo Nana Gosen”, which means “Loop Route 7”. I used to drive this road on weekends with my friends back in 90s.
Along this road, a new restaurant called “Upmarket Pizza & Cafe” opened in June, 2017. I didn’t go right after it opened. But my friend asked me if I’m interested in checking it out. I said, “Why not?”. We decided to go in the first week of January.
So exactly where is the restaurant? It’s located in Toyotama Villa, a 15-minute walk from Nerima Station. Although it’s right on the busy Route 7 road, the space is surrounded by greens, that creates quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
We actually walked from Nogata Station of Seibu Shinjuku Line, so it took longer than we expected. In fact, Google Map didn’t work out well. Is it because of our US phones? Now I kind of realized it might take a little time for the phone and the app to adjust to Japan time and geographical location, as I just came back from the US.
Anyway, if you go there, we highly recommend to go from Nerima Station of Seibu Ikebukuro line. It is closer to the restaurant.
My first impression of the Toyotama Villa was very urban, stylish, and cozy.
Here is the menu! Upmarket offers a variety of pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven.
So we started off with this salad. Very simple green salad.
Since they specialize in pizza, we wanted to try at least 3 kinds. There are 6 people in our group. The first one is “Margherita” (¥1,200), which looks like their signature. Mozzarella, Grana Padano, Basilico, Salsa di Pomodoro.
2nd one is “Salsiccia Fungi” (¥1,400). Italian sausage & mushroom.
The last one is “Melanzane” (¥1,350). Melanzane, Salame Piccante, Ricotta,Origano, Mozzarella, Grana Padano, Salsa di Pomodoro.
We also ordered “Insalata Caprese” (¥950).
So that’s it? No, the dinner didn’t finish here. My partner was not enough and wanted to try pasta too.
“Carbonara alla Romana con Pancetta Fatta in Casa” (¥1,200).
“Fettuccine al ragù di Bologna” (¥1,100).
Pizza’s crust is Italian style thin to medium crust. I personally prefer thinner crust than American style thicker one, which is good! And the flavor is not too salty or rather plain. Pasta was also pretty good.
So now it’s your turn!
