Top Dishes We Recommend To Order At Saizeriya
Saizeriya is a Japanese nationwide “family-style” restaurants, specializing in Italian cuisine. The company sources some ingredients and wine from Italy and try to keep the prices low.
When I was in my 20s, Saizeriya was one of my hangouts with my friends back then. It’s because they have a variety of Italian dishes for reasonable prices.
Today Mr. Robot and I will show you how to order food there – what kind of dishes should you order?
Glass wine for ¥100
I ordered a glass of white wine. It’s only ¥100. And ¥200 even for decanter! It tastes pretty good.
Salad and appetizer
Let’s start with salad and appetizer.
“Garden salad” (¥350) comes with tomato, lettuce, carrots and arugula. Topped with Olive & vinegar dressing that complements the veggie taste. The dressing uses extra virgin olive oil made in Italy. You can also add a topping of “Olive & Anchovy Paste” for additional ¥100!
We also ordered “Italian-style Stewed Offal” (¥350) as our friend recommended. It’s pork and beef offal dish cooked with tomato, olive oil and white kidney beans.
“Petite Focaccias” (¥100) is highly recommended to eat with the appetizer! It’s soft and bouncy!
Escargots for ¥400
Another great appetizer before entree is “Grilled Escargots” (¥400). It’s cooked with garlic butter and goes with the focaccia above!
“Must-Try” Doriya
Entrees are pretty much self-explanatory. They have pizzas and pastas, of course. We usually order one of these but decided to try something different this time.
I’m not sure if you have seen this kind of dish. “Doriya” is one of those dishes you see at Japanese family restaurants. I used to order it every time I was at Denny’s, Sky Lark, Royal Host, etc in 80s.
Saizeriya has “Meat Sauce Doriya” (¥400). It’s basically gratin and rice underneath. Saizeriya’s gratin white sauce is made in their Australian factory. Sooooo nice and cheesy!
Hamburger steak for Meatlover
“Hamburger Steak with Spicy Sausage” (¥500) is perfect for meat lovers. They use 100% beef. Enjoy with their original sauce. Rice or bread needs to be ordered separately (¥150 each).
Another good thing about Japanese family restaurants is they offer “Drink Bar” (soft drink only). Saizeriya has drink bar for ¥200 when you order food. And it’s self-serve soft drinks and free refill.
