Ome Grand Festival is Returning This Week
Japan has so many festivals in each region and prefecture and the Ome Grand Festival is one of the largest matsuri festivals in the Kanto region. It includes 12 towns around JR Ome station. And the festival has 500 years of history and is held on May 2 & 3 every year. Due to the pandemic, however, the city canceled 3 times and this year is going to be the first time in 4 years!
The festival has 3 features we want to emphasize: Numerous food, crafts, and game concessions filling the streets; “competition” that takes place when the “Dashi” (float) pass each other; and lively fighting music unique to Ome. Check out 12 Dashi floats here: http://ometaisai.g2.xrea.com/p6.htm
