Japan’s first permanent castle accommodation
Hirado Castlestay Kaijuyagura opened on April 1
Noroshi Co., Ltd. converted Nagasaki’s Hirado Castle which is one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles into an accommodation facility, as the first project that leads to the creation of tourism resources and regional revitalization by utilizing local government-owned facilities.
This is Japan’s first permanent castle accommodation facility that attracts attention and opened on April 1.
Selected as one of the Japan’s 100 famous castles
Hirado Island, where Hirado Castle is located, lies on the northwestern tip of the mainland of Kyushu, across the Hirado Strait from north to south, attracting many tourists every year.
Hirado Castle, which stands on Mt. Kameoka, protruding from Hirado Seto on Hirado Island, was rebuilt in the middle of the Edo period as the residence of the Hirado feudal lord Matsuura, and has been designated as one of Japan’s 100 Famous Castles.
They utilize the reinforced concrete two-story Tower that was restored in 1977 as an accommodation facility. Hirado City spent about ¥120 million for renovating this tower once used as a warehouse, including seismic retrofitting.
Then the city hired Noroshi Co. to perform interior work and remodel it into a two-story accommodation facility with an area of 119.76㎡.
Accommodation is limited to one group per day, room rate ¥660,000 per night (tax included, service charge not included, meal not included), with an emphasis on the special feeling of being a special castle owner in Hirado. They offer optional special castle owner experiences such as Kagura and tea ceremony that only guests can experience.
Rooms
The guest rooms are luxurious spaces that convey the aesthetic sense of the Momoyama-Edo period to the present day, expressing the Japanese and Hirado styles in the gorgeousness that fuses tradition and modernity.
The keynote of the interior is a mural of butterflies and cherry blossoms drawn by Takahide Komatsu from Kyushu, who is a Rinpa painter who draws an ecosystem centered on butterflies, with the image of the highly designed “Rinpa” that emerged in the latter half of the Momoyama period.
In addition, the three-sided glass-enclosed bathroom facing the sea overlooks the Hirado Bridge and the beautiful Hirado Island sea.
