Fluffy Pancake You Should Try in Tokyo

Japan is famous for souffle pancakes. It’s very fluffy and light. For Americans or Europeans, pancakes are usually not fluffy. So why are Japanese pancakes so fluffy? Because they use merengue and other ingredients.

Well, we had a craving for them so decided to go to one of the popular places in Tama Plaza, Yokohama. Let’s check it out!

We tried fluffy pancakes

The restaurant is called “Merengue“. They make from scratch when ordered. Finally, we decided what to order. A staff said, “It will take a little while as we make from merengue”.

Caramel Banana Pancake

The first one is the “Caramel Banana Pancake”(¥1,200). It comes with fresh bananas, whipped cream made in Hokkaido, and caramel sauce. The pancake is so soft and fluffy. Of course, you can tell from the photo above, right?

When we looked at their menu, they have a lot of Hawaii local food like Locomoco, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, etc. Actually they use the Hawaii concept. That’s why you see these items on the menu. If you were in Hawaii before, you should know these dishes.

Heavenly Lilikoi Pancake

Anyway, the 2nd one is “Heavenly Lilikoi Pancake”(¥1,280). There are 3 sauces here: Lilikoi (passion fruit), strawberry, and condensed milk. If you like Lilikoi, this is the one for you. It’s sweet and sour and it surely satisfies your craving!

They have Thai food

Seafood Tom Yum Noodle

Then my friend ordered, “Seafood Tom Yum Noodle”(¥1,080). I loved it because it has cilantro on top! I love the herb! And it’s not that spicy. Traditionally, Southeast Asian food in Japan is not spicy. Otherwise, a lot of us can’t eat.

Lassi

They also have Lassi. Very refreshing!

Ok, how to get there? They have 15 locations now, mainly in the Yokohama area. If you want to try the one in Tama Plaza, you should go by train (Tama Plaza station on Tokyu Denentoshi Line), not by car. They may not validate a parking behind the restaurant ( they said they would but they didn’t for us).
