Itabashi Cafe Offers Shave Ice For a Limited Time
As you already know, Japan’s Summer is very humid, hot, and uncomfortable for everyone. And it’s been extremely hot for the last several years. It reaches 40c in some areas sometimes. So you need to drink more fluid and stay in the shade to avoid heat stroke.
A Refreshing Haven
And I was lucky I had an opportunity to go to a cafe in Itabashi and try their shaved ice. The “Sagatsuku Cafe” is part of a neighborhood real estate company’s cafe project. They specialize in home & apartment renovations. The company started the cafe operation in 2021. And our friend Etsuko works for the company as an interior coordinator/architect.
This place was originally a milk shop. Then another company renovated and transformed it into a cafe. It preserves its nostalgic atmosphere and embraces the airiness of a modern vibe.
Signature Temptations
On a regular menu, they have their signature item “Fluffy Tea Chiffon Sandwich with Housemade Peach Compote” (¥450). The chiffon cake was so fluffy I wanted to eat more!
4 Refreshing Flavors!
On July 21, the cafe unveiled limited-time handmade shaved ice! There are four invigorating flavors: Uji Kintoki ( matcha & red bean paste), Mango, Strawberry, and Lemon. I tried Ujikintoki and mango. Each spoonful is an explosion of homemade syrupy goodness (*Mango sauce is not housemade). So delicious!
Big chunks of mango come on the ice.
If you are a Matcha lover, Ujikintoki is the one for you!
It’s ¥500. Pretty reasonable. Get more toppings like ice cream and condensed milk for an additional ¥0.50 each.
Beyond Treats
Sagatsuku Cafe doesn’t just offer gastronomic pleasures; it gives back to the community. Try their cafe menu a coffee with the Chiffon cake. They source their coffee from Komone Welfare and Foster Home for the Disabled. This is a great cause for the community.
It’s medium-roasted coffee and is available for a gift purchase!
Consultation for Renovation Ideas
For those with architectural aspirations, the cafe’s unique affiliation comes into play. Managed by a real estate company, the cafe doubles as a hub for seeking renovation advice. Make an appointment prior to your visit.
But don’t worry if you are not interested. It’s a regular cafe, so enjoy coffee and a cake!
Sagatsuku Craft & Cafe is conveniently located a 3-minute walk from Itabashi Kuyakusho-mae Station on the Mita Line.
